IC).A-zI

Notes from
Maxwell Lane Neighbor. hood Meeting
January 29, 2002 5:30-7:30pm
City Hall Redwood City

Facilitated by Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center

CONCERNS/QUESTIONS FROM NEIGHBORS

Traffic
· People driving in and out too ~ast.
· Access to busy street--Alameda--is dangerous and causes traffic back-up.
· Maxwell Lane is a cul-de~ac and is not equipped for traffic.

Parking
· Other Daycare Centers provide parking to their clients.
· There is inadequate parking on Maxwell Land for additional cars.
There is almost no parking on the street; particularly in front of daycare home. Parking
is always a problem when guests are there (e.g. resident's family or friends).
· Concerned about cars blocking driveways.
· Did not receive Redwood City Public Works letter regarding repair of sidewalk.
· Street sweeper is unable to turn around in cul-de-sac when ears are parked in the street.
· Some think there willbe an increase of delivery trucks, etc. if daycare expands.
· Daycare clients have been double parking.

Character of Neighborhood
· This is a residential neighborhood - no businesses.
· In the past it has been safe for children to play in the cul-de-sac--nice quality of life.
· Maxwell Lane is desirable because its secluded, quiet, private.
· People on Maxwell Lane leave garage doors open, feel comfortable. Now will be worried
about strangers coming in.
· Residents feel this opera,on is a commercial interest & therefore doesn't belong on this
street.
· There is now - and will be.more if the Daycare expands noise from kids at the daycare

· Where will children go when the weather good? Will they walk down the street?

Safety
· Access to the Alameda from Maxwell Lane is a big concern. It is a dangerous
ingress/egress, especially during commute hours which is the same time daycare clients
pick up and drop off kids.
· It is a dangerous - or impossible - left turn onto Al~vaeda.
· The Silvieras asked the City to put in "Keep Clear" sign on Alameda, but people ignore it.
· Some people don't stop at the stop sign.
· Some neighbors are worried about access for fire dept. and ambulance.
· The lack of visibility when turning out of Maxwell Lane is a concern.
· These traffic dangers will be increased if the number of cars coming in and out increases.
· The speed people drive is a concern. Yvette has asked her clients to drive more slowly and
they responded. However, it's impossible to monitor all the time.
· Some neighbors are concerned about increased risk/liability for injury with more people
walking on street.
