8.B. - Page 9 <br /> APPENDIX A <br /> INFORMATION ABOUT REDWOOD CITY'S <br /> WASTEWATER SYSTEM <br /> City of Redwood City <br /> The City of Redwood City is located in the northern part of Silicon Valley, approximately 25 <br /> miles south of San Francisco, roughly midway between San Francisco and San Jose. The City is <br /> the county seat of San Mateo County. The City's economy is well diversified, with a strong <br /> industrial and commercial base, including many "high-tech" companies such as Oracle <br /> Corporation. The City encompasses approximately 19 square miles within its corporate limits and <br /> has a population of approximately 80,768. <br /> Form of Government <br /> The City was incorporated in 1867 and became a charter city in 1929, under the charter <br /> laws of the State of California. The City is governed by a seven-member City Council whose <br /> members are elected at large to staggered terms of four years. The City Council selects a mayor <br /> from among its members. The City Council <br /> appoints a City Manager who is responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of <br /> the City. The City Manager is Melissa Stevenson Diaz, and the Director of the Public Works <br /> Services Department is Ramana Chinnakotla. <br /> City Leadership <br /> Melissa Stevenson Diaz, City Manager. Melissa Stevenson Diaz has over 24 years of <br /> local government leadership experience in the San Francisco bay area. Prior to becoming City <br /> Manager of Redwood City, Ms. Diaz served as both Assistant City Manger and Interim City <br /> Manager for the City of Mountain View. She previously held various leadership roles in the cities <br /> of Fremont and Morgan Hill, and was responsible for a wide range of functions including human <br /> resources, finance and budget, policy analysis, redevelopment and economic development, <br /> information technology management, community engagement and communications. Ms. Diaz is <br /> a member of the International City/County Management Association, the California Public <br /> Employers Labor Relations Association, the Urban Land Institute and the Municipal Management <br /> Association of Northern California. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from San Jose <br /> State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Mills College, where she is also a Board Trustee. <br />
