Report from Councilwoman Howard, Chairperson of the Council's Pride and <br /> Beautification Committee, regarding Aqua Terra; (209) <br /> Councilwoman Howard thanked City staff and especially Finance Director Ponty for <br /> spending so much time with her concerning budget issues, and congratulated Director <br /> Ponty and his staff on such a fine job preparing the 1995/96 fiscal plan. <br /> Councilwoman Howard described the partnership created to tackle the problem of <br /> abandoned and sunken boats and debris in Redwood City sluices. The operation dubbed <br /> Aqua Terra was slated to begin August 15, 1995, and included the San Mateo County <br /> Sheriff s Department, Redwood City Fire Department, Bay Conservation and <br /> Development Commission, the Redwood City Port, the Pride and Beautification <br /> Committee, the Department of Fish and Game, and others as well. The goal of the project, <br /> to be done in 2 phases, is to restore the natural habitat and make the waterways safe for <br /> recreation and commercial boating. The company doing the removal work is providing its <br /> services free in lieu of fines incurred at another time and place. <br /> Nita Spangler, 970 Edgewood Road, Redwood City, asked Councilwoman Howard if <br /> the services of a marine archeologist had been engaged, and Councilwoman Howard <br /> advised that she would discuss that matter with Redwood City Fire Marshal Vella. <br /> MEMO 8/15/95 <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />7.
