In response to Councilman Leipzig's questions, Public Works Services Director Ingram
described the damage done by the January, 1995 storm and the overtime incurred by the
crews who were called out to do extra work on the storm drains. Director Ingram stated the
emergency overtime had not been budgeted and if the Council did not approve the resolution
the City would not be reimbursed the $5,756 it was entitled to under FEMA rules and
regulations.
Councilman Leipzig advised that he did not consider overtime an emergency expense and
could not support the resolution.
TITLE READ. MIS: LA BERGE/IIOW ARD
RESOLUTION NO. 12640 DESIGNATING AGENTS FOR APPLICA nON FOR
FEDERAL AND STATE DISASTER RELIEF AND EMERGENCY FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE;
ADOPTED BY THE FOLLOWING ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: COUNCIL MEMBERS BUCHAN, CLAIRE, HOWARD, LA BERGE,
RUSKIN, AND MAYOR HARTNETT
NOES: COUNCILMAN LEIPZIG
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.H. (304)
REPORT: Assistant to the City Manager, November 27, 1995
In response to Councilman Leipzig's questions, Assistant to the City Manager Centeno
described the goals of the proposed Redwood City 2000 partnership between the City, the
County, the Redwood City School District, and the Sequoia Union High School District to
share resources and provide policy oversight of four initiatives (the South County Coalition
for Substance Abuse, Taft School Healthy StartlPeninsula Partnership Program, the Violence
Prevention Task Force and the Sequoia School Partnership to enhance Parent and
Community Involvement.) Assistant to the City Manager Centeno advised that Redwood
City 2000 had nothing to do with a federal program known as Goals 2000.
City Manager Everett, Assistant to the City Manager Centeno, Councilman Claire and
Mayor Hartnett described Redwood City 2000 and advised that it was not modeled after nor
was it part of any federal initiative. City Manager Everett added that apparently a local radio
station had advised, in error, that the two programs were linked, and they were clearly not.
Everyone agreed it was unfortunate that the two disparate programs had similar names.
MINUTE BOOK NO. 53 Regular Meeting Minutes
Page No. 444 November 27, 1995
Page 4
