AGREEMENT FOR CONSUL TING ENGINEERING SERVICES BICYCLE/
PEDESTRIAN UNDERCROSSING AT 101/84 INTERCHANGE (304)
REPORT: City Engineer, December 11, 1995
Councilman Leipzig expressed his objection to spending $21,420 for a study, asked that
the Council be provided more information regarding this proposed bicycle/pedestrian
undercrossing, and suggested that this project should be reprioritized.
City Manager Everett explained that the $21,420 was not for a study but for the design
of the project.
City Engineer Luck described the background of the project beginning with Seaport
Boulevard employees asking the City for help in providing a bicycle/pedestrian
undercrossing, and the employees' ability to obtain grants for the project. City Engineer
Luck cited the last line of the report: "Funds for this project have been allocated in the
1995/96 Capital Improvement Program Budget. The required local share (20%) in the
amount of$30,000 is provided from Gas Tax funds, and the balance $130,000 is provided
by TDA funds."
In response to Councilman Ruskin's questions regarding the project's inclusion in a
comprehensive study of bike pathways, Councilman Claire advised there had been such
a study of bicycle paths around the bay and this project will fit into that plan, the people
who work in Seaport Center want this project and worked hard to get the grants for it, the
City funds are in the budget, and it has already been approved by the prior Council.
Mayor Hartnett advised that this project had prior Council approval and tonight's action
was to implement that decision. The proposed bicycle/pedestrian undercrossing had been
approved by C/CAG and had been part of a comprehensive plan of bicycle pathways in
San Mateo County.
MINUTE BOOK NO. 53
Regular Meeting Minutes Page No. 473
December 11, 1995
Page 5
.- ._. -"-""--"".._'..___00"'__"-."------"-'---' ---.----------.----....---
