Council was invited to watch the dress rehearsal on December 20th and
everyone was invited to visit the Nativity scene on Middlefield and Cassia
beginning December 21st from 6:30 to 9:30 P.M.
MEMO 12/14/93
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
A. Laverne Atherly, Cringle Drive, Redwood City, President of the Redwood
Shores Homeowners Association advised Council that he was speaking on
behalf of the 800 households who were members of the Association, and
told council they were tired of having to complain about problems in the
Shores before they could get attention. Mr. Atherly told Council to
issue a stop order to TCI Cablevision for the above ground pedestals they
were installing and remove those already installed. Mr. Atherly advised
that TCI stated the above ground pedestals were used for economic
purposes, and he added that Redwood Shores was an underground utility
district and the pedestals, already subject to vandalism, should be
removed. Mr. Atherly advised that time was of the essence as he did not
want to see this issue resolved by a fait accompli.
Vice Mayor Claire advised Mr. Atherly to write to the Chairman of the
Board of TCI and asked staff if the City had authority to contact TCI or
to review TCI permit.
In response to Council questions, City Attorney Schricker advised he
would research City's authority in this matter and report back to
Council.
MEMO 12/14/93
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
B. Patt Law, Madison Avenue, Redwood City spoke on behalf of the memory of
Polly Klass and the new initiative, "Three Strikes and Vou're Out" to let
Redwood City know she had petitions. Mrs. Law encouraged everyone to
support this effort. Mrs. Law distributed petitions to the Council.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
C. Joe Steinfeld, Main Street merchant, addressed the Council regarding
legal services. Mr. Steinfeld stated that the Council meeting "was the
proper forum to review why so much of the city's legal advice gets
reversed when challenged and why so much of it violates undisputed and
legal business practices."
(Councilman Greenalch left the dais during Mr. Steinfeld's remarks and
returned after Mr. Steinfeld had left the rostrum.)
Mr. Steinfeld listed examples he believed proved his previous statement,
including directions to the investigator hired by the city to look into
charges and counter charges by Councilmembers Steinfeld and Sanfilipo.
Mr. Steinfeld stated that City Attorney Schricker "promoted secrecy,
frequently misinformed this Council, has refused to follow its direction
in a timely fashion, and recently lied to it as well."
Regular Meeting Minutes
December 13, 1993 MINUTE BOOK NO. 52
Page 2 Page No. 75
0___""°, .
