<br />C. Mayor Buchan thanked the residents of the Redwood Shores neighborhood for <br />coming to the Council meeting to discuss the steps the City Council, <br />staff and the Redwood Shores community can take together to provide <br />the traffic controls the community wants. Mayor Buchan advised that the <br />temporary stop signs erected at Bowsprit and Bridge Parkway where Jaime <br />Ellison tragically lost her life, would stay until the Redwood Shores <br />community groups established at the community meeting on December 29th <br />work through all the issues and make recommendations for permanent <br />solutions to traffic concerns in the Shores. <br />City Manager Everett advised that the next general meeting, chaired again <br />by Police Captain Granucci, for all groups to come together again and <br />discuss their progress, was scheduled for late January. Recommendations <br />for Bowsprit and other sites developed by the community groups, as well <br />as by staff, are tentatively scheduled for presentation to Council on <br />February 14th. <br /> MEMO 1/11/94 <br />D. Laura Aden, 350 Turks Head Lane, Redwood City, Chairperson of the Ad Hoc <br />Committee for Traffic Control Devices in Redwood Shores, asked Council to <br />install a permanent 4-way stop sign on Bowsprit and Bridge Parkway, to <br />increase police presence to stop speeding cars, and create safe traffic <br />lanes by separating pedestrians, vehicles and bicycles. Mrs. Aden <br />presented petitions signed by over 1,500 Shores residents demanding <br />"immediate installation of stop signs to make the intersection of Bridge <br />Parkway and Bowsprit a mandatory 4-way stop for all traffic." <br />E. Thomas Neece, 1301 B Street, San Mateo, representing the San Mateo County <br />Police Athletic League stated his belief that a twenty-four hour facility <br />for youths should be built in the Redwood Shores community and urged the <br />Council to put them on the A list. <br />F. Robert Ensten, 570 Avocet Drive, Redwood City, member of the Ad Hoc <br />Committee for Traffic Enforcement in Redwood Shores distributed a copy of <br />a letter written to the Council by Pat Dixon, a member of the Traffic <br />Advisory Committee, and a sample letter reporting traffic violations. <br />G. Joe Steinfeld, Main Street merchant, expressed his concern regarding <br />public safety in the Shores community, the inadequate markings on school <br />buses, and the need for more police in the area. <br />H. Lorianna Kastrop, 28 Meadow Lane, Redwood City, co-captain of her <br />Neighborhood Watch, described the dangers of random gunfire that plagues <br />her community, expressed support for a Gunshot Location System, and asked <br />that Council place this item on the agenda prior to discussions of <br />Proposition 172 expenditures. <br />I.
