Councilman Sanfilipo said <br /> that Redwood City should be a leader in having the business community <br /> "notice" their customers and let them make their own choices. <br /> Mayor Pro Tern Claire described the differences between working in the <br /> private sector and working in the public sector, and spoke to the issues of <br /> the profit motive versus protecting public health. Mayor Pro Tern Claire <br /> stated that the citizens have a right to hold their elected officials <br /> accountable to protect their health and safety, and he did not want to <br /> create a situation where sometime in the future, Redwood City residents <br /> would have cause to ask "why didn't you do something?" <br /> Council Members discussed the excellent testimony heard and agreed that the <br /> prohibition on smoking was an extremely difficult decision to make, but <br /> would be addressed at the meeting of February 7, 1994. <br /> ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br /> 7.
