LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENTATION BY THE REDWOOD CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> -- PART 2 OF THE STUDY SESSION OF FEBRUARY 7, 1994 <br /> 1) Redwood City Police Chief Guardino presented and overview of the department's priorities: <br /> a) protection of life and property; b) Community Policing Program; c) Redwood City's youth; <br /> d) Traffic; e) Aggressive anti-drug programs; and f) Efficient and cost effective management. <br /> 2) Redwood City Police Captain Granucci used overheads to illustrate police activities in <br /> 1993. The Comparison Chart of criminal activity in 1991, 1992 and 1993 showed an overall <br /> decrease of crime incidence and increased arrests in 1993. Captain Granucci described awards <br /> won by 11 sworn officers and 2 non- sworn officers in 1993; the successful prosecution of the <br /> UA 12 shooter; youth diversion programs, targeted areas for traffic patrol; and advised that <br /> 9,000+ traffic citations had been issued in 1993. <br /> 3) Captain Granucci introduced Sergeant Scott Vermeer. Watch Commander Vermeer <br /> described his background and expertise in anti-gang enforcement, and provided a description <br /> of identified gangs in Redwood City as well as their violent behavior, specifically against each <br /> other.
