Contribution to Juventus Eagles Soccer Club on behalf of the Redwood City, City <br /> Council; <br /> (205) <br /> Mayor Gasparini presented a City check for $400 to Sal Bustos, Coach, and Aldo <br /> Stemberga, Manager, of the Juventus Eagles Soccer Club, to help with the costs of <br /> nationwide travel to compete in soccer tournaments leading to the National Championship. <br /> Coach Bustos provided a history of the Club which began in 1956 for youngsters 14 years <br /> and younger, described the many state and national championships throughout the years, <br /> and introduced the members of the California State Champion Eagles who were in the <br /> audience: Herman Garcia, Victor Santos, Fausto Villegas, Mat Stemberga, Noe Gil, Blake <br /> Francis and Captains David Taufoou and Michael Bustos. Each member shook the hands <br /> of the Council Members and presented them with insignia patches and medals. Mayor <br /> Gasparini was presented with a medal and a banner, and given the Eagles' Championship <br /> Trophy to be displayed in the Park, Recreation and Community Services Department. <br /> Everyone wished the Eagles good luck in their quest for a national championship and gave <br /> them a big round of applause. <br /> Mayor Gasparini announced she would work with the Park and Recreation Department to <br /> see that practice fields would be available for the Eagles; and, stated that this soccer club, <br /> and other organizations for young people should be strongly supported by our community. <br /> MEMO 6/27/95 cO <br /> Vice Mayor Hartnett advised that the Juventus Eagles Soccer Club was accepting <br /> contributions to help with travel costs. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, Redwood City, asked that Council return the Finance <br /> Department to its original designation under the direct control of the Council. Mr. Steinfeld <br /> stated that the Council could not set policy nor establish the budget unless the Finance <br /> Department was under its direct control.
