B. A. \
REPORT
To the Mayor and Members of the City Council
and the Redevelopment Agency Board
From the City Manager and Executive Director
July 12, 2004
Subject
Courthouse Square Conceptual Designs
Recommendation
Select a single design concept which will then be refined and presented at a future public
workshop.
Background
The City's is planning to remove the annex building and restore the façade of the old
Courthouse on Broadway, across from the Fox Theater. With the annex gone, the
opportunity will exist to create a great public space for the community, which will bring
pedestrians and new life and vitality to the Downtown area.
Over the course of three public workshops and a previous joint study session in the last
several months, interested Redwood City residents and committee members have
examined several design alternatives for the Courthouse Square, yet a single concept has
not been decided.
The design contract with Freedman, Tung and Bottomley (FTB) only has budgeted funds
remaining for the refinement of a single concept. Therefore, we have scheduled this
second joint study session to review two alternatives which will reflect the changes
requested at the last study session on May 3, 2004.
Michael Freedman of FTB will be making the presentation and asking Council for direction
on a preferred alternative so the project design can move forward and be completed.
r rJitI
---~ f
..-' ., I
Claudia Olalla~ Ed Everett
Community D e City Manager
'~.. _.
