B. Joe Steinfeld, 850 Main Street, Redwood City spoke about several issues: possible bankruptcy
of City employee; when a council member is connected by a police report to Anti-Semitic
attacks against a fellow council member; smear campaigns; council members hiding evidence
from their fellow council members; and a situation that occurred in 1991.
City Attorney Schricker stated that the comments of the speaker need to be related to items
within the jurisdiction of City Council and so far the items stated are inflammatory and not
linked up factually. The City Attorney suggests that the speaker address his comments in
writing.
C. Steve Penna, 3435 Jefferson Avenue, Redwood City announced the upcoming Drug and
Alcohol Awareness Night on Thursday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sequoia High School
Auditorium.
D. Richard Silver, 824 Winslow St, Redwood City spoke about the successful Friends ofthe
Library Annual Book sale last weekend and thanked Council for their support.
E. Albert Franklin, 425 Chestnut Street, Redwood City, advised Mayor Buchan that he had
written a letter to the Council earlier today and submitted it to the City Clerk's office.
F. Salvadore Sandoval, 2508 Spring Street, Redwood City, Co-Chair of the Midd1efield and
Hoover Neighborhood, discussed his concerns about a kidnapping last weekend in the Hoover
area of Redwood City, and his need to be informed or involved in major incidents that occur in
his area. He requested that a committee be formed to review the Police Department
procedures.
Mayor Buchan reminded Mr. Sandoval that the City Charter prohibits the City Council from
becoming involved in City personneVmanagement issues.
City Manager Everett stated he is willing to talk to Mr. Sandoval at his convenience.
Police Captain Switzer of the Redwood City Police Department spoke about the abduction
that occurred on April 9, 1994, and stated that it was not a kidnapping since the babysitter had
the children. The children have been returned. The Police Department did not feel it was
necessary to get the neighborhood involved since the Police did a neighborhood search. All
assumptions made by the Police Department were correct.
G. City Manager Everett spoke briefly about the lawsuit the City has with Carlos Rodriguez. A
judgment was found in favor ofthe City and the collection process is now going through the
court system.
2.
