Letter from Farmers Market requesting $1,500.00 <br /> REPORT: Letter from Norman Shapiro, Ed.D, Redwood City Downtown Kiwanis Club, <br /> Manager of the Redwood City Farmers Market, April 18, 1994 <br /> Mayor Buchan called upon the members of the audience who wished to speak to this <br /> Issue. <br /> Joe Steinfeld, Main Street, Redwood City, expressed his opposition to subsidizing an <br /> imminently successful business with City funds, and asked for an explanation of why this <br /> funding was needed now. <br /> Norman Shapiro, Manager ofthe Redwood City Farmers Market, asked for Council <br /> support and stated there were many Farmers Markets in the area receiving support from <br /> their cities and merchants, and competition was increasing. In response to Council <br /> questions, Dr. Shapiro advised this grant would be a one-time request, and would free up <br /> more funds to give to Redwood City charities, including the annual shopping spree for <br /> needy children from the Redwood City schools. Last year $8,000 was spent on the <br /> shopping spree.
