Commissioner Dodge presented the Port Budget for FY 1994/95 which included $150,000
subvention to the City of Redwood City. Commissioner Dodge advised that the Port receives no tax
support and it is one of the few Ports in the country that voluntarily contributes to its host City
($1,100,000 since 1982). Commissioner Dodge described the accomplishments of the Port since
1950, and its future plans for capital improvement projects, new cargoes and the need to maintain
reserves.
Commissioner Bennett further described the FY 1994/95 Port Budget and displayed figures
depicting net profits, reserves, capital improvement projects and total subventions since 1982
projected through 1999.
Councilman Claire reminded everyone that ten years ago, after the Port had issued bonds for
capital improvement projects, the Port had promised its subventions to the City would increase, up
to $500,000 per year, within ten years. Councilman Claire stated that with the ambitious
$16,000,000 planned capital improvement projects planned through 1999, the Port has not included
plans to increase its subventions as it had promised, and that was extremely disappointing.
Additional discussions ensued regarding the best use of the Port land.
CONSENSUS: Mayor Buchan determined it was the consensus of the Council to hold a joint
meeting with the Port Commissioners in September or October to continue the discussion of Port
activities and objectives.
MEMO 7/8/94
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B.
