<br /> <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />February 8, 2016 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />City Council appointment to the Civic Cultural Commission (one), and the Housing and <br />Human Concerns Committee (one) <br /> <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />-Appoint by roll call to fill: (1) one vacancy on the Civic Cultural Commission for a seat <br />that expires on 5/31/2016; (2) one vacancy on the Housing and Human Concerns <br />Committee for a seat that expires 5/31/2016 <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Due to resignations from current Boards, Commissions and Committees (BCCs) the <br />City Council began a recruitment process to fill vacant seats on the Civic Cultural <br />Commission and the Housing and Human Concerns Committee. <br /> <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />City staff began recruitment for these positions October 14, 2015 and the outreach <br />period ran through December 9, 2015. The usual methods of reaching out to the <br />community were used, including press releases, a Mayor's video, two banners <br />throughout Redwood City, NextDoor, Facebook and Twitter. In addition, the pre-Council <br />meeting scroll, that is televised two hours in advance of the meeting, was utilized to <br />publicize these vacancies. Prior applicants on file were also contacted. <br /> <br /> <br />On November 30, 2015 the City Council hosted an Open House at City Hall for all those <br />interested in learning about the vacancies, roles and responsibilities. The community at <br />large was invited and this was an opportunity to hear and learn about the expectations <br />for these positions and to meet some of the Council Members, Staff Liaisons and other <br />key staff. <br /> <br /> <br />The applicants for Council consideration are as follows: <br /> <br />Applicants for the Civic Cultural Commission for a seat that expires on 5/31/2016: <br />• Barbara Elizabeth Ashfield <br />• Nicolas A.
