1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />March 14, 2016 <br />SUBJECT <br />City Council appointment to the Planning Commission (one short term seat) <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Appoint by roll call vote to fill: (1) one vacancy on the Planning Commission for a seat <br />that expires on 6/30/2017 <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Due to a Planning Commissioner being elected to the office of City Council, it created a <br />vacancy on the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />Staff began recruitment for this position on January 11, 2016 and the outreach period <br />ran through February 9, 2016. The usual methods of reaching out to the community <br />used included press releases, two banners throughout Redwood City, Next Door, <br />Facebook and Twitter postings. In addition, the pre-Council meeting scroll, that is <br />televised two hours in advance of the meeting, was utilized to publicize this vacancy. <br />Prior applicants on file were also contacted. <br /> <br />The applicants for Council consideration are as follows: <br />• Joseph Albowicz <br />• Isabella Chu <br />• Paul Demers <br />• Rick Hunter <br />• Brian Jaffe <br />• Robert Nice <br />• Muhammad Safdari <br />• Jason Seifer <br /> <br />Council interviewed eight applicants who submitted an application, seven on <br />February 22, 2016, and one applicant on March 14, 2016. One additional <br />applicant withdrew interest. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Council could decide to re-open recruitment for the Planning Commission Seat <br /> <br /> <br />8.A. - Page 1
