Council discussion and recommendation to staff regarding agreement with the Redwood <br /> City Art Center for new Art Center Tenant Improvements at 2625 Broadway. <br /> REPORT: Planning Director Patterson, November 28, 1994 <br /> Planning Director Patterson stated this item will go back to Council with more <br /> information on December 12, 1994. <br /> Councilmember Buchan expressed support of the concept and requested additional items <br /> to be considered regarding conditions of a cooperative venture and the possibility of a <br /> rotating art exhibit for City Buildings. <br /> Councilmember La Berge expressed interest in the downtown location for the Art Center <br /> and a commitment from members of the Association to work with high school students <br /> and the opportunity of building ties with youth. <br /> In response to Vice Mayor Hartnett's request for clarification on owner paid <br /> improvements Director Patterson stated that requests for special improvements needed <br /> specifically for artists will be paid by the artists group. Vice Mayor Hartnett requested <br /> more specifics for City funding and the option of extending a lease beyond two or three <br /> years. <br /> Councilwoman Steinfeld requested more information on December 12th regarding fund- <br /> raising, grant writing, and expenses. <br /> Councilwoman Howard was pleased with the site location, prefers looking at a long term <br /> lease, pursuing Federal tax exempt status and working on a strong relationship with the <br /> School District. <br /> Joan Jordan, Redwood City Art Center 1020 Middlefield Road, thanked the Council and <br /> City Manager for their support. Jordan stated that the artist group had applied for a 501 C3 <br /> but there is a waiting period of one year before writing grants. The art group is currently <br /> working with students from several schools, offering workshops and has been working on <br /> fund-raisers.
