Association Director Britschgi developed a proposal which was revised several times and is now finalized: THE FOX THEATRE TASK FORCE RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Peninsula Center Stage, working in conjunction with the Historical Resources Advisory Committee, will start the process to determine if the Fox Theatre can be designated a state/or federal historic theatre. Fees for this, not to exceed $2,000, will be paid by the City. 2. The City will provide the Civic Cultural Commission with $15,000 to support three community cultural events at the Fox to be presented within a 12-month period. 3. Peninsula Center Stage will produce three productions at the Fox within a 12-month period with a grant from the City of $30,000. 4. A clear written agreement between Peninsula Center Stage and the City outlining in full the responsibilities of each will be developed. 5. This task force will provide an evaluation of the above plan at the end of twelve months. 6. The marquee will be repaired with the City Facade Improvement Program providing one half of the cost and the Downtown Association will solicit donations for the other half. 7. Peninsula Center Stage will place displays in all ten of the front windows. 8. A study session will be held with the City Council of Redwood City and the Civic Cultural Commission to consider the above and to facilitate community involvement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. TASK FORCE REPORTS A. Representative from the Historic Resources Advisory Committee Historic Resources Advisory Committee Chairman Ken Rolandelli presented the historic perspective of the Fox Theatre stressing the importance of its designation by the City as a local historic landmark, and the importance of seeking National Register status. Director Rolandelli expressed Committee support for Task Force Recommendation No.1 but not at the expense of the Theatre's historic status, and asked that architectural consultants be retained to ensure the theatre's historic integrity.
