PRESENTATION BY REDWOOD CITY YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGARDING
RESULTS OF THE YOUTH SURVEY (1306-01)
Mayor La Berge provided the background leading to the Youth Advisory
Committee and its survey of young people in Redwood City between the ages
of 11 and 19. At a Council retreat in January, 1991, providing services
to Redwood City's youth emerged as a top priority. In October, 1991 a
Council, community and youth forum was held to determine those services
most wanted by the young people themselves. The Youth Advisory Committee
was formed from those students and others recruited later on. The
Committee developed a questionnaire to survey their peers on the the kinds
of services they would like to see in Redwood City, and presented the
results to the Council and audience.
Kristen Anderson, Redwood City Child Care Coordinator, thanked the adult
members of the Committee: Georgi La Berge, Mayor of Redwood City; Diane
Casey, Young Adult Librarian, Redwood City; Mike Blondino, Redwood City
Parks and Recreation Department Supervisor; Nancy Barlow, Day top Program
Counselor; Margaret Marshall, Community Representative; and the many
volunteers who provided time and materials to make the survey possible.
The following students addressed the Council and provided the pertinent
points of the survey:
Sierra Slade, McKinley Middle School
Julie Eglington, McKinley Middle School
Cody Schaffner, Our Lady of Mt.
