ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - (101-05)
A. Mayor La Berge acknowledged the many members of the audience who
submitted speaker's cards asking to address the Council on the situation
occurring in front of the Choice Clinic at 650 Main Street. Mayor La
Berge asked City Attorney Schricker to describe the subjects the Council
could consider and the Council's jurisdiction regarding this situation.
City Attorney Schricker advised that the public forum should relate only
to matters under the Council's jurisdiction, and consequently any
discussion of the pros or cons of the abortion issue is inappropriate and
not before the Council at this time. City Attorney Schricker also
advised that the City does have an ordinance relating to the intentional
restriction of access to buildings and businesses and that matter is
within the jurisdiction of the Council.
Mayor La Berge reminded everyone that the Council Members would not
listen to a debate on abortion as that subject was out of their
jurisdiction, but they would listen to speakers who wanted to address the
issue of access to businesses on Main Street, and reminded everyone that
the Council believes in, supports and will uphold all laws of the
tonstitution.
Regular Meeting Minutes
August 3, 1992 MINUTE BOOK NO. 51
Page 1 Page No. 151
~ ,-- - -
