Demolition of Structure located at 811 Whipple Avenue (1401-19, 1402-04)
REPORT: Community Development Director, August 25, 1992
Senior Engineer Lynch presented the staff report and asked Council to
approve the specifications before they are complete in order to expedite the
asbestos removal investigation of the old Whipple Lodge. In response to
Council questions, Engineer Lynch, advised that staff did consider two
proposals before choosing the better bid of J. M. Cohen, Inc., who has done
asbestos removal for the City before. Mr. Lynch advised that the bid
opening is scheduled for September 16 and award on September 21, 1992.
Carl Kriletich, 70 Foss Drive, Redwood City addressed the Council regarding
increased traffic congestion resulting from new low cost housing project and
the need to widen the street in years to come. Mr. Kriletich asked how much
this project is going to cost. Councilman Claire advised the traffic
problems are from Industrial into Whipple to reach Bayshore, and widening
Whipple is not under consideration.
