6.1.J. - Page 15 <br /> 4. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Recognizing Welcoming Star Awardee, Immigrant Youth Action Team <br /> and Sequoia High School Dream Club — Jana Kiser, Redwood City 2020 <br /> Executive Director and Redwood City Together member <br /> Mayor Gee welcomed Jana Kiser, Executive Director of Redwood City 2020, who spoke <br /> about inclusion and welcoming and explained the Welcoming Star initiative. Two <br /> students were present to accept the award — Karolina Soto and Abby Lopez, students at <br /> Sequoia High School. <br /> Mayor Gee presented the award to the students and shared a few words about the <br /> award and thanked them for their work in the community. <br /> Council Member Pierce explained how moving this program has been for her and how <br /> they did a program where they contrasted the lives of those who have documentation <br /> and those who do not. Council Member Aguirre also spoke about all the work the adults <br /> have done to support this program and the opportunity to improve the quality of life of <br /> many youth. <br /> B. Water Conservation Update Presentation - Ramana Chinnakotla, <br /> Public Works Services Director <br /> Mr. Chinnakotla, Public Works Director provided a presentation (on file) and he thanked <br /> the community for exceeding the water reduction expectations. He talked about other <br /> efforts they have made to help with water conservation, and listed the top three <br /> conservation programs in Redwood City. He shared details about different program <br /> expectations and how they have mostly been exceeded. He provided details on various <br /> programs and possibilities noting that the home delivery option is costly and the Utilities <br /> Committee recommended to hold off on this and decided to start the weekend program <br /> for the recycled water fill station. <br /> Council Member Howard thanked Mr. Chinnakotla and his staff for the work, and spoke <br /> about the "My Water" website and how user friendly the platform is and how helpful it is <br /> to conserve water. Council Member Pierce spoke about sharing the information with <br /> members the Bay Area Water Supply Conservation Agency and encourages the <br /> community to keep conserving water. Council Member Bain shared his thoughts on the <br /> progress the community has made in conserving water, and asked about the timeline <br /> for the pipeline getting to Kaiser Hospital and downtown buildings. Mr. Chinnakotla <br /> explained that they had received the permits they needed and were moving forward with <br /> the bidding process, and the connection is scheduled for Spring 2016. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked the community for conserving. He also spoke about a controversial <br /> topic from a few years ago, the recycled water project, and how it was a long discussion <br /> and how it was a good decision for the City of Redwood City to pursue it, based on the <br /> information presented. <br /> 5.
