On many weekends, my wife and I walk our
dog through the proposed route, and there are a significant amount of vagrants
living under the 101 bridge. I often see people with bottles of liquor, and smell
marijuana. Once, I walked past a small group of teenagers who appeared to be in
the middle of some kind of a transaction.
The geography of the location leaves it well out-of-sight for regular patrols. From the
Toy's - R - Us parking lot, it's impossible to see completely under the bridge. Thus,
vagrants congregate on the Bair Island side. I've seen police cars drive past the
opening without being able to see who's living under the bridge.
I fear that without a plan, the proposed undercrossing will be too dangerous for
residents who'd like to make use of it!
