8.A. - Page 5 <br /> HOUSING PROGRAMS, PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES <br /> CURRENTLY UNDERWAY AND PLANNED FOR FY 2016-17 <br /> The lack of affordable housing is a regional crisis, however, even in less robust <br /> economic times the City has supported housing-related services for vulnerable <br /> populations. The City has a wide range of programs, projects, and initiatives underway <br /> to provide services for those needing assistance with housing, and to increase and <br /> preserve the supply of affordable housing. Additionally, the City Council is leading a <br /> community conversation about important housing-related concerns, such as tenant <br /> protections, and increasing affordable housing production through both public and <br /> private investment. <br /> Below are housing-related programs, projects, and initiatives that are underway and <br /> recommended anticipated to be included in the City's FY 2016-17 operating and capital <br /> budgets: <br /> Programs Current Program for Recommended <br /> FY15-16? for FY 16-17 <br /> Fire Safety First program to save lives and Yes CIP Budget <br /> property by requiring the installation of life <br /> safety fire sprinkler systems for apartment <br /> buildings and to support rental protections. <br /> Community Development Block Grant and Yes Operating Budget <br /> Home Investment Partnership Program <br /> (CDBG)/HOME) Grants: Seeking Council <br /> direction on April 25, 2016, to allocate $1.16 <br /> million to non-profit agencies. <br /> Housing Endowment and Regional Trust of San Yes Operating Budget <br /> Mateo County (HEART) <br /> Dedicated prepaid wireless Utility User Tax Yes CIP Budget <br /> revenues to housing $100K revenue <br /> Fair Oaks Community Center provides basic Yes Operating Budget <br /> emergency and support services including food, <br /> transportation, shelter referrals, housing <br /> assistance (including payment of security <br /> deposits or rent) and client advocacy, serving <br /> approximately 2,000 Redwood City residents <br /> annually. <br /> City-sponsored Homeless Outreach Team Yes Operating Budget <br /> 5 <br />
