DES : jp : 2/7 /77R <br /> water service area of the City of Redwood City , and to that end <br /> the City Manager and the Director of Public Works are hereby <br /> authorized and directed to take all appropriate steps to effect <br /> by voluntary methods , a water usage reduction of not less than <br /> 10 per cent of the 1976 levels of water usage in said water <br /> service areas . <br /> 2 . The aforesaid voluntary measures shall include imple- <br /> mentation , initially on a voluntary basis , of the following <br /> water use guidelines which consumers of the Redwood City water <br /> system are strongly urged to observe in order to continue our <br /> present 1ifeT-style and to avoid serious mandatory restraints on <br /> our use of water : <br /> (a ) Avoid washing sidewalks , driveways , service station <br /> aprons , parking lots , porches , and other outdoor <br /> service areas ; <br /> ( b ) Avoid washing exteriors of dwellings , buildings , and <br /> structures , except windows ; <br /> ( c ) Insure that ornamental fountains or any other decorative <br /> structures making use of water employ a recirculating <br /> system { <br /> (d ) Repair broken or defective plumbing , sprinkler , water- <br /> ing or irrigation systems to prevent the escape or <br /> leakage of water ; <br /> ) Avoid continually running or drawing water when washing <br /> automobiles , trucks , trailers , trailer houses , boats , <br /> mobile homes or other vehicles , and recycle water <br /> within an approved tolerance in connection with commercial <br /> Vehicle. washing establishments ; <br /> (n ). Severely reduce quantity of water used , and limit outside <br /> watering to early morning and evening hours , and insure <br /> that automatic irrigation systems are timed and adjusted <br /> to changing weather conditions ; <br /> (e <br /> (_g ) In no case allow unproductive or uncontrolled water use , <br /> such as sprinkling lawns without continuous personal <br /> attendance of the resident or occupant of the property <br /> involved , and permitting water to run into streets <br /> and gutters ; <br /> ( h ) Encourage the use of indoor water saving devices such <br /> as shower flow restrictors and measures lowering toilet <br /> tank water volume ; <br /> i ) Use economic and efficient procedures for water-using <br /> appliances , such as insuring that dish and clothes <br /> washers are operated only with full loads ; <br /> 2 <br />
