Employ non-chemical controls(biological,physical and cultural controlsj before using <br /> chemicals to tre�t a pest problem. <br /> 2. Prun�plants property�nd at the appropn�te time of ye�r. <br /> 3. Provide adequate irrigation for landscape plants. Do not over water. <br /> 4. Limit fertilizer use uniess soil testing indicates�de�ciency. Slow-release or organic fertilizer <br /> is preferable. Check with municipality for specific requirements. <br /> 5. Pest control shauld�void harming non-target organisms,or negatively affecting air and <br /> water quality and pvblic health. Apply chemicat controls ortly when monitoring indicates <br /> that preventative and non-chemical methods are nat keeping pests below acceptable leveis. <br /> When pesticides are required,appty the least toxic and the least persistent pesticide th�t <br /> witl provide adequat�pest control. Do not appty pesticides on a prescheduled basis. <br /> 6. Sweep up spitied fertilizer and pesticides. Do not wash away or bury such spills. <br /> 7. Do not over apply pesticide. Spray only where the infestation exists. Fallow the <br /> manufacturer's{nstructions for mixing and apptyirig materials. <br /> 8. Only licensed,trained pesticide applicators sha11 apply pesticides. <br /> 9. Apply pesticides�t the appropriate time to maxirrtize their effectiveness and mirrimize the <br /> likelihoad of discharging pesticides into rur►off. With the exceptian of pre-emergent <br /> pesticides,avoid apRlication if rain is expected. <br /> 10. UnwantedJunused pesticides shail be disposed as hazardous waste. <br /> Standing water shali not remain in the treatment measures far tnore than flv�e days,to prevent <br /> mosquito generation. Shouid�ny mosquito issues arise,contact the San M�teo County Mosquito <br /> Abatement District(SMCMAD),as needed for assistance.
