Multi-family residential accounts with 10 to 59 dwelling units are assigned 0.75 DUEs per
dwelling unit. Multi-family accounts with 60 or more dwelling units are assigned 0.50 DUEs per dwelling unit. The monthly
Basic Service Charge for each residential account is calculated by multiplying the Basic Service Charge shown above by the
number of DUEs on the customer's account. The water quantity charge for each residential account is calculated based on
the rates shown above, but with the volume of water included in each tier multiplied by the number of DUEs on the customer's
account. For example, under the proposed rates,a customer with 3 DUEs would pay the Tier 1 rate for the first 24 units of
water used per bimonthly billing period, the Tier 2 rate for the 25th through 60th unit of water use,the Tier 3 rate for the 61St
through 120th unit of water use,and the Tier 4 rate for any additional water use.
2 A'unit'of water is one hundred cubic feet(hcf)of metered water use, which is equivalent to approximately 748 gallons.
3 Charged to customers with separate commercial meters for potable water landscaping, based on a'water budget'calculated
according to the City's'water budget methodology',which is available at www.redwoodcity.org/utilityrates.
4 For the first five years of recycled water use,the City has historically provided a 25%discount to commercial recycled water
bills and a 40%discount to industrial recycled water bills.
Pass Through Provision for Wholesale Water Rates: The proposed water rates assume that the SFPUC will
increase its wholesale water rates from the current level of$3.75 per hcf to $4.10 per hcf on July 1, 2016; to
$4.28 per hcf on July 1, 2017; and to $4.68 per hcf on July 1, 2018. The City proposes to pass through any
additional increases in SFPUC wholesale water rates above these levels each year. These pass throughs will be
2
