REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br /> <br />June 27, 2016 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Purchase of One Dump Truck <br /> <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve the the purchase of one 2017 Model Year Freightliner Dump Truck <br />in the amount of $116,946.49 from Golden Gate Truck Center. <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />Redwood City’s Fleet Replacement Program is designed to provide a structure for <br />evaluating vehicles and equipment in order to replace them at the most economically <br />advantageous point in their life cycle. At pre-described intervals, vehicles and <br />equipment undergo a thorough evaluation including but not limited to, age, mileage, <br />condition, maintenance history, downtime, anticipated future repairs, usage and vehicle <br />capabilities. <br />The Tree Maintenance section of the Public Works Services Department currently owns <br />and operates a chipper truck to assist in daily operations. The existing unit was <br />purchased in 1988, has reached the end of its useful lifecycle, and has met equipment <br />replacement criteria. <br /> <br /> <br />ANALYSIS <br />Representatives from the Tree Maintenance section and the Public Works Fleet Division <br />worked together to arrive upon the necessary specifications of the replacement <br />equipment and both parties agree that a 2017 Model Year Freightliner Dump Truck will <br />meet those specifications. <br /> <br />On April 22, 2016, a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids was published in The Daily News with a <br />submission deadline of 3:00 p.m. on May 19, 2016. Copies of the bid notice were <br />emailed to three (3) companies with additional copies available at the Public Works <br />office located at 1400 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063. The received bid was <br />opened by the City Clerk on May 19, 2016 and is summarized in the table below. <br /> <br />6.1.E. - Page 1
