January 11, 1993 CALL TO ORDER - 7:30 p.m., Mayor Buchan presiding ROLL CALL Council Members present: Claire, Gasparini, La Berge, Sanfilipo, Steinfeld, and Mayor Buchan Council Members absent: Greenalch Officials and staff present: Everett, Jorgenson, Sorba, and Pawloski, Ingram, Guardino, Luck PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Councilman Sanfilipo INVOCATION - Pastor Dennie Logie First Christian Church 1. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS A. Mayor Buchan advised that there were people in the audience who wished to speak about a Redwood City Downtown Association billboard sign on Highway 101 and asked Assistant City Attorney Sorba to speak to this issue. Mr. Sorba advised that according to Government Code Section 54954.3 the public may address any item of interest "that is within the subject matter jurisdiction of the legislative body." Mr. Sorba further advised that since the subject billboard is on private land and no public funds were involved, the Council has no jurisdiction in this matter and the Council did not have to hear discussion of this issue in this public forum. Mayor Buchan asked if any Councilmember wished to discuss the issue of the billboard or hear from the public. CONSENSUS: It was determined by Mayor Buchan that it was the consensus of the Council not to hear discussion of any matters related to the subject billboard. MEMO 1/12/93 B.
