Report on Facilities Committee
Councilwoman La Berge presented the report from the Facilities Committee whose
members are Councilwomen La Berge and Gasparini and Mayor Buchan. The purpose
of the committee was to review the recommendations from staff to construct five
facil ities: Red Morton Center; Redwood Shores Community Center in conjunction
with the Belmont School District; an expanded Fair Oaks Community Center
Library; a Redwood Shores Maintenance Facility; and a new City Hall.
Councilwoman La Berge presented the following recommendations from the
Facilities Committee: A) Go forward with the new Red Morton Center as
previously approved; B) Go forward with plans for a Redwood Shores community
center with the Belmont School District; C) Look at other options for expanding
the FOCC Library as the desired federal grant will not be forthcoming at this
time and position of utilities and the parking lot make expansion too expensive
for a very small gain; and D) Leave the one-time PERS rebate of $3 million in
the general fund and use the interest (approximately $135,000 this year) to
help offset the state's announced takeaways from Cities this year and next.
Councilmembers discussed realities of building all five facilities during the
next few years and agreed to continue discussions on how best to meet the needs
of library expansion, maintenance in Redwood Shores and improving City Hall.
M/S: SANFILIPO/LA BERGE TO ACCEPT THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE FACILITIES
COMMITTEE
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE.
MINUTE ORDER NO. 93-080
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAYOR BUCHAN DECLARED A RECESS AT 8:40 P.M.
MEETING RECONVENED AT 8:41 P.M.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regular Meeting Minutes
Apri 1 26, 1993 MINUTE BOOK NO. 51
Page 6 Page No. 385
. .~~ -,~., ,-, --
