~
.
6. PUBLIC HEARINGS
PUBLIC HEARINGS A., B. AND C. WILL BE HELD CONCURRENTLY.
A. PUBLIC HEARING on an amendment to the General Plan Land Use Map (201-02)
Affidavit of Publication of Notice is on file in the City Clerk Department
GP 14001-3: General Plan Amendment from "Heavy Commercial" (Multi-Story
Structures for Office and Retail Uses) to "Mixed Use" (Combined Residential
and Commercial).
REPORT: Redwood City Planning Commission, May 11, 1993
Planning Director Patterson described the issues involved in the proposed
amendments and the procedures used to consider them: staff reports, Council
discussion, public hearings and actions.
Maureen Riordan, Planner II, presented the staff report and described the
106 parcels to be rezoned, 53 on Woodside Road and 53 on El Camino Real.
Ms. Riordan stated the purposes of the rezoning as follows: to create a
housing/job balance; to provide affordable housing opportunities; to help
the City meet determined regional housing needs; and to provide a 24-hour
economic support for existing retail uses in the downtown and new retail
uses such as the new Sequoia Station and Lucky Market.
In response to Council questions, Planner II Riordan described the
shared commercial and residential parking plans and the current mixed use
parking ordinance in place, and advised that parking requirements would be
reviewed on a case by case basis. Ms. Riordan advised this mixed use is not
new to Redwood City, was working successfully in other cities, and was a
long term plan that would not happen overnight.
In response to Council questions, Planning Director Patterson advised that
although the basic zoning would remain, the proposed rezoning would allow
new or additional housing units and would provide the opportunity of
eventually eliminating the "strip commercial" look on Woodside Road and El
Camino Real. Mr. Patterson advised that public hearings were held and there
had been no opposition to this rezoning, and that all current permits and
building code requirements would apply.
MAYOR BUCHAN OPENED THE PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR ITEMS A. B. AND C. AT 8:55 P.M.
AND INVITED ANYONE WHO WISHED TO SPEAK TO PLEASE DO SO. NO ONE CAME FORWARD
TO SPEAK.
MIS: CLAIREISTEINFELD TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARINGS.
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE AND HEARING CLOSED AT 8:56 P.M.
Regular Meeting Minutes
May 17, 1993
Page 5 MINUTE BOOK NO. 51
Page No. 407
'- .. .',.... ...
'T- .-
