This year’s Food, Wine, & Heroes event is SAL’s signature fundraising event that will
include the involvement of a variety of restaurants providing food at no cost, beverages
for sale, a silent auction, a band, and an event to recognize the work of sponsors and
volunteers who have gone above and beyond to help the children of our communities.

SAL is requesting permission to close Broadway, between Hamilton and Middlefield (the
portion of Broadway in front of Courthouse Square), from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on
Thursday, October 20th, 2016. SAL is also requesting to close the west sidewalk for
that block of Broadway from Hamilton to just before the entrance of Quinto Sol
(entrance of Quinto Sol will not be blocked). The restaurant tables, silent auction tables,
and associated canopies will be set up on the sidewalk and street area on that block of
Broadway during the listed times. At 7:00 p.m., participants in the event will be moved
to the inside of the Fox Theatre, where the recognition event and live auction will take
place, and where the band will be playing. It is expected approximately 300 persons will
attend this event.

ALTERNATIVES
The City Council could choose not to adopt a Resolution authorizing the street and
sidewalk closures. The selection of this alternative would prohibit the Food, Wine, &
Heroes event from taking place at the requested location.

FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact to the City. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office cadets will
provide all traffic control services on the day of the event. There are no other City
services required.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The proposed action is not a “project” for purposes of CEQA, as that term is defined in
CEQA Guidelines Section 15378 and does not require environmental review.

JOHN GUNDERSON
LIEUTENANT

JR GAMEZ
CHIEF OF POLICE

6.3.C. - Page 2
