285 <br />LETTER .PUBLIC HEALTH ENGINEER HOWELL REGARDING PROPOSAL TO INSTALL ADEQUATE DIS utetw.LON PROGRAM OF SEWAGE EFFLUENT <br />FROM TREATMENT PLANT. (CITY ENGINEER ECOMMENDS REFERENCE TO H. JENKS, CONSTULTANT.) It is the recommend- <br />ation of Mr. Howell that the Council give serious consideration to instituting an adequate disinfection <br />program of the sewage effluent leaving our treatment plant to ensure the safety of the Bay waters, particularly <br />during that period of the year when recreational programs are being carried out. Councilman Granger moved <br />7 that this be referred to H. Jenks for his recommendation, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />APPROVAL, ASSESSMENT DIAGRAM, HILLTOP DRIVE IMPROVEMENT. This should not have been placed on the agenda. <br />[I - <br />.PROGRESS REPORT, ASSOCIATED ENGINEERS, 12" WATER LINE MIDDLEFIELD ROAD, ETC. The Water Superintendent recommend- <br />ed acceptance of the:above;project subject to correction of arW defects in materials and workmanship which <br />may appear within one year from the date of acceptance by the City Council. The final progress estimate <br />for the above project is $13,262.26, being the total amount due less the usual 10% withholding subject to <br />any action of.the Council relative to the extra time required to complete the project. On July 20th the <br />project was completed with the exception of some minor street clean-up and sopt repair patching. The <br />Associated Engineers used forty-five and one-half working days to complete the project. While the <br />Completion date was twenty-one working days over the time limit stated in the agreement, the work progressed <br />in a reasonable satisfactory manner. <br />Councilman Stout moved that the progress payment be paid, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br />Water Superintendent H. L. Winter stated that this work ran over the time limit, however, he did not recom- <br />mend applying the penalty because of the manor in which the job was done. <br />RENEWAL OF USED CAR PEWTS, 7 LOCAL AUTO DEALERS (ORDINANCE 593). The auto dealers are as follows: <br />Bray Motor Company, Davies Auto Co., Paul Diebert Motors, Hoyt Pontiac, Ferris Miles, Inc., Ryan & Harper, <br />Inc., and Towne Motor Company. Councilman Stout moved approval of the renewal, seconded by Councilman <br />Britschgi and carried. <br />USE PERMIT ISSUED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION: <br />W. & A. Atkenson to build addition to home at 1460 Virgin" Avenue subject to non -rent agreement, <br />The Mayor mentioned the study meeting to be held on Wednesday night with the Veterans Memorial Commission and <br />also the meeting with the Broadway Improvement Club.,. <br />Councilman Britschgi stated that the Council should study the progress work of the Aesociated Engineers to be in <br />keeping with the matter of 0. C. Jones and Sens. <br />Councilman Granger mentioned and brought up the matter of renumbering James and Roosevelt Avenue to follow through <br />with the numbering as on.Whipple, Hopkins and Brewster Avenues. Police Chief Faulstieh stated that they <br />should change all the streets. including Vera and Lincoln. Councilman Granger moved to refer this matter <br />to the Planning Commission, seconded by Councilman Britschgi and carried. <br />Councilman Britschgi moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried.
