<br />2. Granted to Christian Assembly Church to erect new church at 1205 Hopkins. -
<br />3. Granted permit to G. Geibel to operate used furniture store at 2135 E1 Camino Real
<br />but no outside display.
<br />Councilman Spillers moved adjournment, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried.

<br />Redwood City Council
<br />August 27, 1956, 8:00 P. M.
<br />Invocation was lead by Reverend Wilbur C. Westerdahl, Peninsula Covenant Church.
<br />ON ROLL CALL the following were noted present: Councilmen Carl A. Britschgi, Floyd D. Granger, Sidney D.
<br />Herkner, Louis Weiss, Mayor William H. Royer and City Clerk R. S. Dodge. Councilmen Robert V. Spillers
<br />and Hiram S. Stout were noted absent. Also present were City Manager E. A. Rolison, Assistant City
<br />Attorney Chester W. Lebsack, Water Superintendent H. L. Winter, Building Inspector S. H. Kreiss, City
<br />Engineer Glenn M. Jain, Engineering Associate Arthur Eskelin, Police Chief William Faulstich, Police Captain
<br />Theodore Moudakas, City Collector Paul E. Perrin, Fire Chief J. L. Lodi, Assistant to City Manager L. A.
<br />Kimball, Assessor -Auditor John J. Brophy, .Account -Clerk Vivian Holmquiat and Robert Costello, soon to be
<br />City Attorney,
<br />PUBLIC HEARING, PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS, HILLTOP DRIVE - BID OPENING. The affidavits of posting, publication
<br />and mailing were ordered filed. There were written protests received from Alec E. Milne, John McCune,
<br />and Ruth E. Sawyer. In Answer to the question regarding stopped sewers in the area, City Engineer Jain
<br />stated that they had not r1eceived any more complaints than experienced in other parts of Redwood City. It
<br />was his opinion that the present sewers are adequate as is.
<br />This was followed by discussion in regards to questions asked by Mr. Milne, Mr. Valenti, 446 Eaton Avenue,
<br />Alexander Kennedy, 454 Eaton Avenue, Mr. Caron, 350 Eaton Avenue and Mrs. Donaker, 123 Hilltop Drive. Most
<br />of the questions were in regard to the matter of drainage on Eaton Avenue, intersection charges and the
<br />problem of stopped up sewers. Councilman Britschgi moved that the public hearing be closed, seconded by
<br />Councilman Herkner and carried.
<br />The Clerk was asked to open the bids which were as follows:
<br />C. J. Wood $19,000.50
<br />Douglass and Woodhouse 18,079.10
<br />Bauman Brothers 16,504.10
<br />The bids were referred to the City Engineer for checking. The Mayor announced that this was approximately
<br />3% lower that the Engineers estimate which was $17,440.70. The following bids were received and summarized
<br />as follows:
<br />Oakland Sewer Construction Company, Oakland $13,602.40
<br />Charles H. Berger Company, San Carlos 19,291.75
<br />E. T. Haas Company, Belmont 19,874.25
<br />Dominges Balanco, San Lorenzo 22,120.55
<br />McGuire and Hester, Oakland 25,769.50
<br />It is the recommendation of the City Engineer, concurred in by the City Manager, the low bid of the
<br />Oakland Sewer Construction Company be accepted, and that all other bids be rejected. This project will be
<br />financed from sewer rental funds. Councilman Weiss asked that this be held up until the return of the City
<br />
