476 <br /> Councilman Spillers moved approval of the Planning Commission recommendation, seconded by- Councilman <br /> Weymouth. Councilman Herkner asked if the Fire Department approved the variance. Assistant Fire <br /> Chief Leslie stated that the Fire Chief attended the Planning Commission meeting and if he objected <br /> he would have told them so at the time. The motion lost on roll call with Councilmen Herkner, Stout, <br /> and Weiss voting No and Councilman Granger being noted absent. <br /> owl <br /> Councilman Herkner moved that a sketch of the proposal be presented to the Council at the next <br /> Council meeting in regard to this matter, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br /> Councilman Weiss moved that the Planning Commission make a stud of this problem in view of the fact <br /> of amending the zoning ordinance to eliminate the necessity of so many variances. The motion lost <br /> for lack of a second. smvo <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED DENIAL APPLICATION OF J. E. CRAWFORD TO REZONE PORTION OF LOT 4, BLOCK B, .r <br /> W.W. & M. SUBDIVISION, from R-4 to C-1-H (1110 Roosevelt Avenue). The Planning Commission refused to <br /> recommend approval of the extension of a C-1 Zone, particularly in view of the statements made by <br /> the applicant that he only wished to reduce required setback for an apartment development. Council- <br /> man Stout moved approval of the Planning Commission's recommendation to deny the rezoning, seconded <br /> by Councilman Herkner. Councilman Stout changed his motion in line with the recommendation of the <br /> City Attorney to set the matter for public hearing in three weeks, June 10th, seconded by Councilman <br /> Herkner and carried. <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDED DENIAL APPLICATION OF R. SICK FOR VARIANCE TO ALLOW ADDITIONAL SINGLE <br /> FAMILY UNIT AT 1308 ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS IN AN R-1 DISTRICT. The Planning Commission stated that <br /> there were many protests and a petition against the variance. They could not make the findings <br /> required under Ordinance 600 and therefore denied the application. The Mayor stated that no Council _ <br /> action was necessary. <br /> TRAFFIC COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED A FOUR WAY STOP AT WHIPPLE AND ALAMEDA, ALSO THAT AN EXISTING STOP SIGN AT <br /> THE INTERSECTION OF ALAMEDA AND THE BY-PASS FROM HOPKINS AVENUE BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A YIELD <br /> RIGHT-OF-WAY SIGN. Councilman Herkner moved approval of the Traffic Committee's recommendation and <br /> referred it to the City Attorney for preparation of the necessary resolution, seconded by Councilman <br /> Weiss and carried. <br /> TRAFFIC COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED A YIELD RIGHT-OF-WAY SIGN BE INSTALLED ON HOPKINS AVENUE EAST OF ELWOOD <br /> STREET TO PROTECT TRAFFIC ENTERING HOPKINS AVENUE FROM BROADWAY. Councilman Weiss moved approval of <br /> the Traffic Committee's recommendation and referred it to the City Attorney for preparation of the <br /> necessary resolution, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. <br /> COUNTY FAIR ASSOCIATION REGARDING DREAM GIRL BEAUTY CONTEST. Bili Detlefsen, President of the Junior <br /> Chamber of Commerce, requested that they be allowed to proceed with this matter. They handled this <br /> for the Council last year and would like to have it again this year. Councilman Herkner moved that <br /> the letter be referred to the Junior Chamber of Commerce seconded by Councilman Weymouth eymouth and carried. <br /> DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO"ROUTE A." The Clerk read the letter wherein <br /> it was stated that our resolution would be make a part of the record concerning the project and copy <br /> thereof would be forwarded to their Headquarter** Office. Councilman Stout moved that the letter be mmi <br /> filed, seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br /> wow <br /> SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL REQUEST FOR EXEMPT LICENSE TO OPERATE THRIFT SHOP. The Clerk outlined the <br /> contents of the letter. The City Collector stated that there were two other stores of this type in <br /> Redwood City and they had been required to meet the requirements of the ordinance. He referred to <br /> the Salvation Army and Good Will Industries. He said they paid the necessary licenses and even posted <br /> their bond.
