M. on Wednesday to meet with the Junior Councilmembers. <br /> Tuesday night, February 5th, the Council were to meet with the Chamber of Commerce in regard to <br /> sales tax. The Council were guests and not ,in charge of the meeting. - " ! <br /> The City Attorney stated that he has the ordinance-ready for rezoning the Stickney property that was ..,.r <br /> requested at the last meeting. Councilman Spillers offered introduction of the ordinance, seconded <br /> by Councilman Weymouth and carried. <br /> .City Engineer Jain again referred to the proposed improvement of Jefferson Avenue. He stated that they <br /> Pool <br /> will have to obtain the necessary right-of-ways. They have a little money set up in gas tax funds <br /> but not sufficient funds to purchase the right-of-ways. <br /> .Councilman Granget reported on the matter of contacting the State Highway in regard to the tree planting <br /> program. The State was of the opinion that they should plant trees on all of El Camino Real rather <br /> than just pick out one section. He was of the opinion that the Council should notify the State of <br /> their intention to prepare a supplementary plan for City Beautification for tree planting on El <br /> Camino Real from the North to South City Limits. Councilman Granger moved to accept the committee <br /> report, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. Councilman Granger stated that the Committee <br /> will prepare the report to send to the State. • <br /> Councilman Granger again referred to the street lighting at the Broadway--El Camino intersection and he <br /> stated that the State has received a letter from City Engineer Jain. The State is going to take the <br /> matter into consideration. <br /> Councilman Granger moved that the matter of a stop'sign at Grand and Brewster be referred to the Traffic <br /> Fadt Finding Committee, seconded by Councilman Spillers and carried. mod <br /> Councilman Stout brought up the matter of stop signs that were installed on Industrial Way and also the <br /> speed limit. He stated his thinking in regard to the possibility of taking down the stop signs and <br /> allowing industrial Way to be a thoroughfare. The Police Chief stated that recently the Traffic <br /> Committee studied this matter and they still feel that the stop signs are necessary until the traffic <br /> signal at Whipple Avenue is changed. <br /> Councilman Stout stated that it had been called to his attention that there was a large gasoline truck <br /> using Hudson and Upton Streets. He brought this matter up because Hudson Street was not one of <br /> the streets to be used as a truck route. The Police Department will check into this matter. <br /> Councilman Weiss stated that he received a letter regarding the Bay Area Rapid Transit. This was in <br /> regard to a proposed bill and a meeting is going to be held in San Francisco on February 20th. <br /> Councilman Weiss felt that it would be well to have the Council formalize their thinking on this <br /> bill. Councilman Weiss moved that a study session be set for February 13th, seconded by Councilman <br /> Herkner and carried. <br /> Councilman Herkner asked for a report next week from the City Manager in regard to the Sequoia water <br /> Reservoir. <br /> Claim for damages, Mrs. Reba M. Curry, 811 Arguello Street, was denied and referred to the insurance <br /> Nal <br /> carrier on motion of Councilman Stout, second3d by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br /> Claims 21558 through 21773, totaling $69,513.68, were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Weymouth, <br /> seconded by Councilman Weiss and carried. <br /> Councilman Spillers spoke about the forum letter of Councilman Weiss appearing in the Tribune with regard <br /> to sales tax.
