49 9 <br /> The Mayor called attention to the study meeting on Wednesday night, March 20th. Tuesday night, March 19th, <br /> meeting with the Chamber of Commerce; and Thursday night the League Dinner at Rickey's. <br /> PERSONAL APPEARANCE, THOMAS TUITE, JR. presented a letter and asked that it be referred to the Sidewalk Committee. <br /> Councilman Spillers moved that the letter be referred to the Sidewalk Committee, seconded by Councilman <br /> Granger and carried. <br /> I:: Councilman Herkner called attention to an article appearing in the Forum Column of Saturday nights Tribune in <br /> regard to the Water Department Funds. The information was incorrect and he suggested that the City Manager <br /> write a letter to the gentlemen and give him the correct information. <br /> Councilman Weiss also called attention to this article entitled "Confidence in City Fathers". He stated <br /> that the letter in question raised some very pertinent wuestions and asks for a public statement relative <br /> rim: thereto. It is his belief that a complete report would be healthy from a public relations standpoint, as <br /> well as assisting in maintaining the peoples' confidence in the City Fathers. He went on to say that five <br /> Months ago he requested a report on the same $332,000 indebtedness as reflected in the annual audit report of <br /> the Water Department as of June 30, 1956. Councilman Weiss urged that a complete resume of events and facts <br /> pertaining to activities leading to said indebtedness of $332,000, as well as its propriety and conformance <br /> to law and ordinances governing same by prepared by City Manager and the staff available to him for submission <br /> to the Council so that an ultimate public report and statement may be issured. <br /> Councilman Herkner moved that the letter be answered publicly by the City Manager, sec-nded by Councilman <br /> Weiss provided that they include in the motion that this letter be brought back to the Council for approval. <br /> Councilman Herkner agreed to the change to bring the letter back to the Council in one we°k before it is <br /> sent to the paper, seconded by Councilman Granger. The motion carried. <br /> Councilman Weiss moved that the City Manager, in addition to the report, make a complete resume in regard to <br /> [:: the $300,000 refund on the Carson—Moncton Tract and be submitted to the Council in 45 days, seconded by <br /> Councilman Herkner and carried on roll call with Councilman Granger voting No because he is not afraid of <br /> what he did and Mayor Royer voting No. <br /> Councilman Weiss stated that the Council received a 'letter in regard to the proposed Sierra Point Low—level crossing, <br /> He moved that this letter be placed on the agenda. This motion last for lack of a second. <br /> Councilman Granger asked to refer to the City Attorney the matter of the sale of Christmas trees. He suggested <br /> that anyone who wishes to sell trees should be required to make their application on or before September <br /> 1st. Councilman Granger moved that this matter be referred to the City Attorney to attempt to find some <br /> method to control the sale of Christmas trees, seconded by Councilman Stout and carried. <br /> Claims numbering 21961 through 22090, totaling $71,511.57, were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Spillers, <br /> seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. <br /> Councilman Weymouth moved that the meeting be adjourned to March 25th at b:00 P.M., seconded by Councilman Stout <br /> r.., and carried.
