The Clerk read the title of the resolution after which <br /> Councilman Spillers offered RESOLUTION 2217 AWARDING BID FOR LEASE OF CERTAIN CITY G1NED PROPERTY TO REDWOOD <br /> CITY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT and moved its adoption, seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried on <br /> roll call. <br /> REAL ESTATE COMMITTEE REPORT REGARDING ACQUISTION OF PORTION OF LOTS 16 TO 19, BLOCK 13, HIGHLANDS OF EMERALD <br /> LAKE FOR RECREATION AREA. The. Committee recommended that the City and County of San Francisco be offered <br /> $2,000.00 for the portion of the lots not a part of the Hetch-Hetchy right-of-,way, and assume any,: <br /> assessments for improvements presently being put in. An estimate of the assessment anticipated is <br /> approximately $1,000.00. In as much as it will be used for recreational area, it is the thought of the <br /> Committee that surface rights on the right-of-way area should be included in whatever agreement is made <br /> with the City and County. of San Francisco. <br /> Councilman Stout wanted to know where they were going to get the money if they approved this. City <br /> Auditor Brophy stated that there were sufficient funds in the Capital Outlay Fund. Councilman Stout moved <br /> that the acquistion be made as recommended by. the committee, seconded by Councilman Granger. Councilman <br /> Herkner wanted to know what they were going to use the property for. Mrs. Tornell stated that there were <br /> nod efinite plans for this park; however, the Commission was looking into the future when they would need <br /> property in this area for recreational use. The motion carried. <br /> APPLICATION FOR WATER SERVICE AT 4160 JEFFERSON AVENUE, R. G. HUNT. The Clerk read the letter from the Hunts <br /> wherein they claim hardship because of insufficient water from the wells. The Mayor asked Water Superin- <br /> tendent Winter if there was sufficient water in the area for Mr. Hunt to tie into. Mr. Winter reported <br /> that he had contacted Mr. Howell from the Health Department on this matter and had been requested to ask <br /> the Council to refer this particular matter to the Health Department for a check on the conditions of the <br /> [:: wells in the area. If in checking this well, they find that the water table has dropped then they will <br /> stop all building in the area. They will make the necessary tests and report their findings to the Council. <br /> This was followed by discussion after. which Councilman Spillers moved to hold this off for two weeks, to <br /> Clerk to write a letter to the Health Department, and Mr. Hunt to also contact the Health Department, <br /> seconded by Councilman Herkner and carried. If the necessary information is available by Thursday of this <br /> weeks the Mayor announced that the matter could be considered at the next Council meeting. <br /> COMMITTEE REPORT ON PROPOSED FIRE DISTRICT CONTRACT, DUMBARTON-FAIR OAKS DISTRICT. Councilman Stout moved to <br /> carry this item on the agenda for three weeks, seconded by Councilman Weymouth and carried. <br /> CITIZENS PORT COMMITTEE REPORT. The Clerk read the following report submitted by the. Committee: <br /> The Citizens Port Committee has completed an investigation of the operation of the Port of <br /> Redwood City, and herewith submit their findings for your consideration: <br /> We believe and recommend an impartial survey by a professional research organization is <br /> esential to an intelligent analysis of present and future port development. We recommend <br /> the cost of the survey be underwritten by Port Funds. <br /> '"' While we feel there may be justification for some criticism of <br /> y � port operation and potential, the majority <br /> of .this committee agrees the Port of Redwood City may have a <br /> g y y profitable future, which we are convinced <br /> should be analyzed by the survey we recommend. <br /> This Committee stands ready to serve if requested by the Council. The Clerk reported that he also <br /> had a report by Gordon Seely, said report being the minority report of the Citizen's Committee. Council- <br /> [:: <br /> man Weymouth moved to accept the Committee's report and turn it over to the Port Commissioners for further <br /> action, seconded by Councilman Granger. <br /> Councilman Weiss moved an amendment to the motion that the majority report and the minority report be <br /> accepted and that they be taken under advisement, seconded by Councilman Stout. This was followed by <br /> considerable discussion. The amendment lost on roll call with Councilmen Granger, Spillers, Wymouth and <br />
