He observed that the <br /> City in 1976 granted a one-time 5� increase <br /> to employees retired before 1971. Mr. Jain <br /> urged approval of the total package because <br /> benefits are greater for very little more <br /> than for the increase in benefits allowed <br /> �"'""' under Section 21222.85 only. <br /> � <br /> � Art Eskelin, 1000 Wilmington, retired City <br /> employee, called attention to a chart in- <br /> dicating the rise in cost of living in recent <br /> years as compared to the pension level of <br /> retired Redwood City employees, and urged <br /> approval of increased benefits at this time. <br /> MOTION FAILS: The motion failed for lack <br /> of a second. <br /> M/S: Bury/Biagi to continue consideration <br /> of increased benefits for City retirees <br /> until November 19, 1979. <br /> In response to question, Mr. Ference advised <br /> that if Council wishes to have any increase <br /> effective by February 1, the timetable re- <br /> quires Council approval before November 19. <br /> CHANGE Of MOTION: Councilman Bury, with the <br /> consent of his second then changed his motion <br /> to continue consideration of increased <br /> benefits for City retirees until November 5, <br /> 1979. <br /> The motion as changed carried on the following <br /> roll call vote: (MINUTE ORDER N0. 79-209) <br /> Ayes: Councilmen Biagi, Bury, Stangel and <br /> Mayor Rhodes <br /> �" Noes: Councilman Chandler <br /> � CONSENT CALENDAR CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> M/S: Ordinance titles read.
