Pubtic Employees Retirement System Actuarial Report of City Manager 11/1/79 <br /> Report on cost of additional retirement Report of Director of Finance 10/31/79 <br /> allowances for retired City employees <br /> (continued from 10/22/19) In response to request by Council, Director <br /> of Finance Ference reviewed his report regard- <br /> ing cost of additional retirement allowances, <br /> which he advised would require depooling at a <br /> cost of approximately $50,000 per year, if <br /> �""" additional benefits are approved. <br /> � Mr. Ference described the benefits available <br /> to both Miscellaneous and Safety Members and <br /> three alternative methods of distributing the <br /> benefits; those availabte for Miscellaneous <br /> members alone; those available to Safety <br /> Members, and finally, a combination of bene- <br /> fits for both Safety and Miscellaneous <br /> Members which would cost $137,000 for a full <br /> year. <br /> Reference was also made to the two exhibits to <br /> the report, one of which provided a tabulation <br /> of percentages allowed by classification and <br /> by date of retirement. <br /> Glenn Jain, 755 Upland Road, 2nd Vice President <br /> o R��d Public Employees Association, indi- <br /> cated his group supported, the proposals under <br /> consideration and stated that the accelerating <br /> cost of living make it imperative for retirees <br /> to have an increase. <br /> M/S: Biagi/Stangel to approve the fourth <br /> option in the recommendation, a combination of <br /> all benefits for both Safety and Miscellaneous <br /> Members. <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote. <br /> (MINUTE ORDER N0. 79-114) <br /> �,,,, City Manager Fales pointed out that the cost <br /> • of depooling is not a fixed cost, but would <br /> probably decline over the years, as employees <br /> +� become younger, and that many other cities <br /> either have gone to depooling, or plan to do so. <br /> -------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- <br /> 4.
