25 '7
Written Communications (continued)
regular street sweeping program. He suggested that
people should be required to tie down their loads,
and felt that the problem was not so much a matter
""""` of sweeping the street, but of catching the litterers.
Councilman Norris suggested that a notice miht be
prominently posted at the entrance station to the
dump, and Mr. Fales advised that he would be glad
to contact the District with this suggestion. He
also felt that Mayor Weymouth' s suggestion was a
good one, to have printed leaflets handed out in-
forming users of the dump that it was a violation
to have their loads uncovered.
Mayor Weymouth ordered the matter referred to staff
for investigation. (Memo 10-8-7)
3. Petition containing estimated 2265 signatures of
Re woo Ci y res en s on pages reques n es-
tablishment of a Senior Citizens Center - presented
by W. E. Morrissey.
William E. Morrisse , 119 Jeter Street, spoke of the
arge percen age o citizens who have reached retire-
ment ae, and that as others become seniors, they
will appreciate having a center that will serve their
needs. He recalled that years ago, the then City
.. Council recognized the need for facilities for senior
citizens, and encouraged the late "Red" Morton,
Recreation Supervisor, in that direction. From that
` effort, the "Fun After Fifty" Club was formed from
a nucleus of 40 members, which now has grown to
1,000 without soliciting membership. He referred
to several other senior citizens groups which are
inadequately housed, and the need, therefore, to
establish a Senior Citizens Center.
Mayor Weymouth advised that the request would be re-
ferred to the Park and Recreation Commission, and
suggested that the group appoint a sma.11 committee
of five to seven members to contact the Commission,
arrange a meeting as a basis for settin up future
meetings and discussions. He suggested that in those
discussions to bear in mind the possibility of a
,joint powers agreement between contiguous cities.
(memo 10-8-7F)
(Mayor Weymouth ordered a five-minute recess at 8:5 p.m. )
Peninsula Youth Center Inc. -A reement for
c care servi ces a Fair Oaks Commun ty Center
""" City Manager Fales referred to his report of October 4,
1974 which recommended a revised agreement, clarifying
+ certain questions of interpretation of the original agree-
ment. The revisions essentially permit the City to make
necessary staff adjustments if necessary to stay within
budget allocations, and also clarifies the role of the
Center Coordinator in this activity.
-5-
Reg.
