440
MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 11 , 1972 , AND DIRECTING THE
CITY CLERK TO PUBLISH OR CAUSE TO BE PUBLISHED A NOTICE OF ELECTION, LIST OF
ELECTION OFFICERS AND POLLING PLACES AND NOTICE OF NOMINEES FOR PUBLIC OFFICE,
seconded by Councilman Rhodes and carried on roll call vote , Councilman
Petersen being noted absent .
Resuest for Variance from strict interpretation of Sidewalk Ordinance .
The applicant , Don Mincey Associates , in conjunction with improving a large
corner lot at Bradford Street and Warren Avenue with their new office building,
requested permission to construct a sidewalk 8 ' 6 " from face of curb to back of
sidewalk, leaving a space 3t6 " from back of walk to the property line , where
they would like to install landscaping . An additional two feet of landscaping
immediately behind the property line on applicant ' s side was also planned . City
Manager ' s report advised Council that Planning, Public Works and Parks Depart-
ments had been requested to jointly review the Sidewalk Ordinance with City
Attorney ' s office , in an effort to provide a somewhat less difficult means by
which applications of this type may be processed , especially where sufficient
sidewalk exists and the applicant desires inclusion of more landscaping .
Councilman Williams moved to grant the Variance to the Sidewalk Ordinance as requested ,
seconded by Councilman Rhodes and carried . (MINUTE ORDER #72 - 50)
Councilman Keckley moved to introduce Ordinance amending Section 23 . 72 of the Code
of the City of Redwood City relating to the establishment and adjustment of
salaries of certain employees specified therein, seconded by Councilman Henderson .
City Manager ' s report indicated that reorganization of Public Works Department
as authorized by Council was now in the process of implementation, and that
it was desired to commence recruitment and selection of a Public Works Director .
Since the position was vacant for some time , no salary was assigned to it in
the Salary Ordinance adopted in January , and further , the salary had not been
reviewed during the period position was vacant . Attached to the report was a
compilation of comparative salaries paid in ten other Bay Area cities for
similar position . It was recommended that a salary range be established for
position of Director of Public Works , rather than a flat rate as was the case
previously , of $1 , 667 to $2 , 084 per month .
Motion carried .
Councilman Henderson moved to introduce Ordinance amending Section 11 of Ordinance
No . 1519 , the Salary Ordinance , relating to position of Director of Public
Works , seconded by Councilman Williams and carried .
3 -6=72
