244 <br />Council questioned whether it would be possible to submit this data within <br />the next day or two, and concern was expressed whether this would allow <br />sufficient time. City Manager indicated that, barring the unforeseen, it <br />was the intention to submit final recommendation at the next meeting <br />(June 11th). <br />Councilman Arnett moved to accept the report and recommendation, and to instruct <br />City Manager to proceed as proposed, seconded by Councilman Keckley and carried <br />on roll call vote, Councilman Rhodes voting no. <br />Mr. Whitney Halteman, representative of the San Mateo <br />County Employees Association, questioned whether the <br />Manager's report would encompass recommendations on <br />other departments, as well. <br />It was explained the intent of the motion was with reference to Department <br />of Public Works, and that other recommendations had been made, in addition <br />to which there will be further Executive Sessions to discuss personnel <br />matters. It was also indicated that in the review of the budget, the <br />understanding has been that personnel matters are to be considered separately. <br />Third Budget study began with consideration of <br />Acct. <br />465 <br />(Equipment <br />Services) - <br />No changes <br />recommended. <br />Acct. <br />468 <br />(Equipment <br />Replacement <br />Services) - <br />Budget request for one Fire Engine <br />($55,000) was questioned, and earlier approval of 2 Engines discussed, It <br />was felt by Councilman Arnett that in view of indication one engine was <br />intended to serve Redwood Shores area, and considering present status of that <br />project, this item should be deleted, Auditor -Accountant responded the <br />equipment was intended for replacement, two engines in present use being <br />so dilapidated they will soon have to be taken out of service. It was <br />noted also that lead time for delivery is approximately eighteen months, <br />City Manager added that the requested equipment is to replace Engine No. 6 <br />at the Main Station, It was also noted the two engines previously approved <br />have been on order only three months, with delivery a year away, Councilman <br />Henderson agreed that the item should be excluded from the budget. <br />City Manager responded to Councilman Rhodes' question whether Belmont Fire <br />Protection Service would cover Redwood Shores for additional year, <br />advising contract will continue to be offered, and the cost is relatively <br />insignificant. Their equipment makes first response, with back-up by our <br />City's forces, who, once they are on the scene, take over. <br />
