the problems and to also offer their help.
Ms. Jones-Thomas said that transportation has been added as an additional
item because if everything is done to make our facilties and programs
accessible to disabled persons, it is no good if people cannot get there.
ITEM 2 - Transportation
Commissioner Anthony read a copy of a presentation TRIPS Chairperson
Marianne Mannia made to the SamTrans Board at their June meeting. He
indicated he would be attending a TRIPS meeting this afternoon. The
Commission discussed setting up a subcommittee to identify transportation
needs of both senior centers and then to feed that information back to the
Self-Evaluation Transportation subcommittee to incorporate into their
recommendations. Chairperson Jordan appointed Commissioners Lloyd and
Sharp to work with the Senior Center Directors to more clearly identify
senior transportation needs.
ITEM 3 - August Meeting
The Commission decided to cancel the August meeting of the Senior Affairs
Commission. The next meeting will be held on September 11 at the Senior
Center Annex.
ROUNDTABLE
Chairperson Jordan inquired about the status of the Citizens Action Council
of the Redwood City School District. A discussion was held regarding this
matter and Superintendent Hartman said that the district has recommended a
parcel tax proposal in which seniors could be exempted or have the tax
deferred. The parcel tax may go on the November ballot providing the
County does not put their tax increase on the ballot also.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at
11:00am to be reconvened at 9:00am on Wednesday, September 11 to be held at
the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California.
