She mentioned she has three Title 5 people available to <br /> assist, but that losing two staff people will be very difficult for the <br /> center. <br /> She said the Area Agency on Aging will still be funding $7,380 of the <br /> Center's nutrition program and $15,000 for transportation. TEWCI's total <br /> budget is $40,000 less than last year. She mentioned the Council of <br /> Elders, of which Commissioner Sharp is a member, have raised over $3,000 <br /> towards a bus fund. Director Bransford explained the Center has spent over <br /> $3,000 this year on maintenance of their two buses and have asked their <br /> seniors to donate .35 cents per trip to help subsidize the bus maintenance <br /> costs. She explained the TEWCI board is also looking for other sources of <br /> funding for I&R services. TEWCI will make its presentation to the Housing <br /> and Human Concerns Committee on April 28 and Commissioner Jordan asked that <br /> a member of the Commission attend the meeting or requested that a letter be <br /> sent to express the Commission's support of the TEWCI funding request. <br /> Chairperson Anthony said he would speak with Maria Bransford to discuss <br /> attending the meeting. <br /> ITEM 3 - Vital Concerns of Seniors Survey Tally Report <br /> Chairperson Anthony said that 90% of the surveys have been tallied and <br /> Commissioner Sharp said she has 15 surveys completed in Spanish which need <br /> to be done. Chairperson Anthony said the next step will be to read and <br /> analyze the comments written on the completed surveys. <br /> ITEM 4 - Plan for Proposed Study Session <br /> Chairperson Anthony asked the Commissioners to think about what each of <br /> them would like to speak about at the Study Session and expects assignments <br /> to be made at the May meeting. Commissioner Lloyd suggested having the <br /> Commissioners "double-up" on each subject in order to more effectively <br /> answer questions from the City Council. <br /> ITEM 5 - Transportation <br /> Commissioner Jordan said the submission of proposals to SamTrans for <br /> paratransit service has been extended to April 28. He has been advised <br /> three companies will be bidding on the proposal. The first step of the <br /> proposal process will be to pre-qualify the program and the second step <br /> will be the cost of the proposal. <br /> ROUNDTABLE <br /> -Chairperson Anthony will be participating in the Human Race to be held on <br /> May 8. He mentioned RSVP will get 75% of the proceeds from his fund <br /> raising and the Volunteer Center will get 25%. <br /> -Commissioner Lloyd said he is working on collecting supplies to help <br /> make candy-filled tray favors for the Meals on Wheels program. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 11:10am to be reconvened at 9:00am on Wednesday, May 12, 1993 at the Senior <br /> Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. <br />
