budget hearing, the City Council has agreed to a 2-3% increase in supplies and
services for departments if it can be justified. Superintendent Hartman was
concerned that if the van is purchased for the Veterans Memorial Senior
Center then it will be an additional responsibility which will have to be
assumed by staff and felt the matter needed to be looked at in more detail.
Commissioner Jordan said he supports having the transportation program
managed by senior volunteers not staff. The department budget is due by
April 8, 1994.
-Liability Exemption
Commissioner Jordan said he will be meeting with someone involved with
the Democratic Legislative Committee to try to get the liability exemption for
seniors driving seniors on their agenda. If successful, he will also go to
Assemblyperson Jackie Spier to get her support of the exemption.
Commissioner Lloyd noted the Senior Legislature has a bill on liability
exemption for seniors and he will follow up to determine the status of the
bill.
ITEM 3 -TRANSPORTATION
Chairperson Anthony said the PCC has developed a performance chart for the
Redi-Wheels paratransit system and will have copies sent to all the
Commissioners.
ROUNDTABLE
-Supervisor Kucala said the Adaptive Physical Education program has been
located to the Armory during construction at the Senior Center Annex. Seh
requested that Peer Counseling be put on the agenda for discussion as a
means of reaching out to homebound seniors.
-Commissioner Lloyd announced the Forum on Health Care Reform which
will be held at the Hyatt Hotel on March 21, 1994 from 8:OOam-1:OOpm. He,
Chairperson Anthony, and Commissioner Berglund will attend.
-Chairperson Anthony said a report by the Fox Theater Task Force will be
presented at the March 14 City Council meeting. He and other members of
the Task Force will be presenting different phases of the report at the meeting.
-Chairperson Anthony said he would like to see the Senior Affairs
Commission become more active with the City Council. He said he plans to
speak at a future City Council meeting about the issue of sign ordinance
enforcement and read a excerpt from his speech. Superintendent Hartman
mentioned he may want to speak before the Pride and Beautification on this
particular matter.
