-Noreen Donohue gave the Commissioners a copy of a letter she received <br /> from the management of Redwood City Commons regarding the status of the <br /> HUD Section 8 Program. Superintendent Hartman will contact Debbi Jones- <br /> Thomas to see if she can speak on this topic at the June meeting. This matter <br /> will be placed on the June agenda. <br /> ITEM 3-REPORT ON ELDER ABUSE <br /> Chairperson Lloyd announced a meeting concerning elder abuse entitled <br /> "Break the Silence" which will be held on Thursday, June 22 at the Airport <br /> Hilton from 8:OOam-3:30pm. Supervisor Griffith will try to arrange for a <br /> speaker to talk on elder abuse at the June meeting. <br /> ITEM 4-VETERANS SENIOR CENTER UPDATE <br /> Supervisor Griffith spoke about the activities which have occurred at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center since she began work in December. From <br /> December to present, the activities were: <br /> December-Chris Oliver's going away party <br /> January-Tova Sweet was hired as Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor <br /> -Hired a catering company for the nutrition program <br /> -Began having regularly scheduled staff meetings <br /> -Began assessing buildings and working to get them in shape, <br /> especially the Senior Center Annex <br /> -Hospitality Committee growning and increasing activity in main <br /> building <br /> February-Formed an editorial committee of 9-10 volunteers <br /> -Increased value of the newsletter; good information being provided; <br /> mail 120-140 newsletters per month; 600 copies provided at Senior <br /> Center; increased printing by 200 copies per month <br /> -Worked on departmental budget; developed goals and objectives <br /> -Ice cream social <br /> -Work with computer group <br /> -Work with kitchen volunteers <br /> March-National Women's History month <br /> -Various activities, panels, guest speakers <br /> -Well attended events; well received by participants <br /> -Support groups being developed for Alzheimer and caregiver groups <br /> with Rosener House <br /> -Transportation Committee formed; survey developed for community <br /> input <br /> -St. Patrick's Day lunch and activities <br /> -Assess computer needs with entire department; plans made for new <br /> recreation software; plans to network all department buildings <br /> -Ogden Services advised staff they can no longer provide meals <br />
