SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1996
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Lloyd, Commissioners
Capone, Moran, Newell, Penna, and Walsh
COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Mooney
GUESTS PRESENT: Brent Britschgi, Lynne Murphy, Ray Dawley, and
Councilman Ira Ruskin
STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Sally Hartman, Secretary Denise Monroe
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to
order at 3:05pm by Chairperson Lloyd at the Senior Center Annex,
711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Walsh questioned the 8.5% increase in BR garbage collection
rates noted in the January minutes. He felt the increase was actually 12% and
asked if a letter could be sent to Chris Holmquist for clarification. He also
asked if the letter could include information about the amount of increase of
BFI rates over the past 5 years, what profits that has created, and any
information on recycling costs. Superintendent Hartman mentioned the
request to delete the additional garbage pick up at the end of each month
would not be decided until this summer. The green waste program is also
being formulated and will not be presented and voted on until later in the
year.
CORRESPONDENCE
-The Commissioners commented on the letter they sent to the Mayor and
City Council regarding proposed Medi-Cal and Medicare cuts and asked if they
should expect a response from City Council.
-Chairperson Lloyd received a packet of information from the Housing
Department regarding 96-97 CDBG/HSFA funding proposals. This
information will be given to Commissioner Newell.
-A flyer was received for "Irish Night" to be held Wednesday, March 13, 1996
at 6:00pm at Pete's Harbor House. Cost is $20.00 per person and proceeds will
benefit the Kainos organization.
