Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,June 12, 1997 <br /> Redwood City 2000 was established to give input on the vision statement and <br /> get ideas for areas of need in the City. Vice Chairperson Moran explained that <br /> four (4) action teams had been developed entitled: Schools as Community <br /> Centers, Building Community Leaders, Downtown Activities, and <br /> Communications. Both Vice Chairperson Moran and Superintendent <br /> Centeno urged members of the Commission to volunteer and/or encourage <br /> others to become involved. Vice Chairperson Moran indicated that seniors <br /> may want to become involved in areas such as transportation, the Heart <br /> Smart City Project, Redwood City history projects, and intergenerational <br /> programs. <br /> Vice Chairperson Moran reported that Redwood City 2000 had received a two <br /> year grant from the Hancock Foundation for $90,000.00 which will pay for <br /> staff that will support the community action team efforts. Jack Greenalch has <br /> agreed to chair the Community Action Team. Commissioner Anthony spoke <br /> about the passage of Measure A and the 2 to 3 years it will take to get <br /> construction completed. <br /> b.) Heart Smart Grant Application <br /> Superintendent Centeno gave an overview of the application submitted <br /> which will involve a community wide education campaign and programs <br /> revolving around two community gardens. The application is currently <br /> being reviewed by the State. Kaiser and Sequoia Hospitals as well as the <br /> County Health Officer and numerous other groups were involved in the <br /> application. <br /> ITEM 2- FY96-97 WORKPLAN <br /> -Entrepreneurial/Innovation <br /> No report. <br /> -Public Safety <br /> There was no committee report. Commissioners Anthony and Lloyd spoke <br /> regarding their concern with vehicles and motorhomes parked on the street <br /> for long periods. Superintendent Centeno reported that the City had recently <br /> changed its ordinance from 5 days to 3 days for on street parking. <br /> -Economic Development <br /> The Commissioners felt that the first downtown lunch event should occur at <br /> either Mime's or the Courthouse Coffee Shop. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> Commissioner Lloyd announced the Veterans Memorial Senior Center Flea <br /> Market will take place on Saturday, June 28 from 9:OOam-4:OOpm. <br />
