Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, November 13, 1997 <br /> Thornberg. Commissioner Newell noted she would prefer a Wednesday date <br /> in February 1998. Ms. Thornberg has a video tape and a book to promote <br /> seniors getting involved in classrooms. It was suggested that perhaps <br /> Superintendent Ron Crates, elementary school principals, City Council, <br /> school board members, and school resource specialists could attend. <br /> Woodside Terrace was mentioned as a site for the luncheon. <br /> -Termination Based on Age/Higher Salaries <br /> The Commissioners discussed the recent court decision on this matter; this <br /> item will be tabled to a future agenda. <br /> ITEM 3 — ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 1998 <br /> M/S Harrison/M.Walsh: To have Leo Walsh continue as Chairperson of the <br /> Senior Affairs Commission for 1998. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> M/S L.Walsh/Harrison: To have Betty Moran continue as Vice Chairperson <br /> of the Senior Affairs Commission for 1998. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> ITEM 4 — REVIEW OF 97-98 GOALS <br /> -Pedestrian Traffic Safety Discussion <br /> Commissioner Newell said there is confusion about what jurisdiction is <br /> responsible for the intersection of Selby Lane and El Camino Real. He said <br /> that traffic is a big issue in the community with moves to widen streets, etc. <br /> The Commissioners asked for a report from City staff to address the issue of <br /> traffic safety, specifically the number of pedestrian accidents in Redwood <br /> City; location of those accidents; period of time covered; how long does a <br /> "walk" sign remain lighted; with emphasis on Woodside Road and Jefferson <br /> Avenue. In addition, the Commissioners would like to review of pedestrian <br /> traffic safety with respect to specific sites frequented by seniors and/or <br /> children. <br /> -Discuss and reach agreement on workplan <br /> Chairperson Walsh asked the Commissioners to review the workplan and <br /> either eliminate or add items that are important; place initials on items you <br /> would like to work on. Please send a copy of reviewed workplan to <br /> Superintendent Centeno by December 1, 1997. <br /> ITEM 5 — DECISION REGARDING DECEMBER MEETING <br /> The Commissioners decided to hold a meeting on December 11 . Location of <br /> the meeting will be the Fair Oaks Senior Center in Classroom 3 at the regular <br /> meeting time of 3:00pm. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Commissioner Marie Walsh will be graduating from the Citizens Police <br /> Academy on Thursday, November 20 at 6:30pm in the City Council <br /> Chambers at City Hall; everyone was invited to attend. <br />
